About Santa Cruz contra dance

October 14, 5:40-9:00 p.m.
Veterans Memorial Building, 846 Front St., Santa Cruz

Dance to the music of StringFire! (Caroline McCaskey on fiddle, Erik Ievins on bass/cello, and Patti Cobb on keyboard). Caller is Andy Shore. This dance will feature gender-neutral dance roles.

Everyone is welcome! Bringing a partner is not required, and prior dancing experience is not necessary. Contra dance is a traditional New England style of folk dancing, in which each dance is taught and prompted by a caller. During each dance, partners “progress” up or down the hall, eventually dancing with everyone else in the line. Dances are high-energy, playful, social and set to live music. New dancers are encouraged to attend the free lesson at 5:40, before the regular dance at 6:00. Wear comfortable, non-marking shoes, and comfortable loose-fitting light-weight clothing (twirly skirts are great fun too!).

Suggested admission donation is $12 regular, $20 for supporters, $8 for full-time students w ID card. Cash only.
