About Sanctuary Speaker Series: CA Birds & "The Blob"

CALIFORNIA BIRDS ARE BEGINNING TO REACT TO “THE BLOB”

- Save Our Shores features acclaimed birder, author & birding guide Alvaro Jaramillo -

We all know that weird things have been happening on the ocean and on land in the recent past. We’ve been living through a drought, and we have also had some amazingly unusual warm water offshore, that has been termed “the Blob.” This blob thing is just as ominous as it sounds, it’s also exciting… bird life along the California coast is reacting to differences in climate, and incredibly quickly.

Alvaro will take you on a trip through some of the effects and oddities of our time in “The Blob”, the excitement of watching nature adapt, sprinkled with some background on what makes the Central Coast of California such an incredibly special place to be an ocean birder and naturalist.

Guests are encouraged to engage in discussion about California’s rich bird population, how “The Blob” is impacting their habitats, and discuss possible solutions to preserve and protect bird habitats. Food, drinks, and music for all!
