Pat Martino continues to plot, as The New York Times describes, ??????new musical directions, adding more layers to his myth.??? Martino was first introduced to jazz by his father and the budding guitarist got his start in the industry when he dropped out of school and began playing with local Philadelphia rockers. A subsequent move to Harlem saw Martino immerse himself in the soul-jazz scene and begin his career as a bandleader. His latest album, Nexus, followed a medical setback which required Martino to re-learn much of his craft, and in the past few years he has received four Grammy nominations, and was named ???Guitar Player of the Year??? in DownBeat Magazine???s 2004 Reader???s Poll.
