About Naturalist Night: California Hydroscapes

Join geologist John Karachewski for this Naturalist Night lecture at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History as he dives into California hydroscapes and discusses groundwater, water resources, and environmental issues, as well as provides tips on how to photograph beautiful landscapes. Explore groundwater springs in Northern CA, wetlands in the Delta, melting glaciers in Yosemite, and winter storms at Anza Borrego. This scenic presentation will also showcase seasonal changes in California’s hydrosphere.

About the speaker:

John Karachewski is a geologist for the California Environmental Protection Agency in Berkeley. His work includes geology and environmental projects throughout the western US from Colorado to Alaska to Midway Island and throughout California. John also teaches a GIS class at Diablo Valley College and leads numerous field trips throughout the Bay Area for the Field Institute-Point Reyes National Seashore Association, Emeritus College, and the California Naturalist program. As a photographer, John collaborated with UC Berkeley Professor of Geology Doris Sloan on a popular book called the “Geology of the San Francisco Bay Region,” published by the University of California Press. Since 2009, John has written quarterly photo essays for the Groundwater Resources Association of California Hydrovisions newsletter.
