About Myra Melford's Snowy Egret

Myra Melford’s never-ending search for new avenues of expression yields an impressive list of creative projects: Be Bread with Cuong Vu; The Same River Twice with Dave Douglas; and Crush with Kenny Wolleson. Her current group, Snowy Egret – also the name of her latest recording – debuted in 2012 and features trumpeter Ron Miles, guitarist Liberty Ellman, bassist Stomu Takeishi, drummer Tyshawn Sorey, with Melford handling piano and keyboard duties. The group’s cohesive interplay brings a nuanced expressiveness to Melford’s music that the New York Times says, “… rings of familiarity and mystique….” In 2013, Melford was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation’s Performing Artist Award for a creative oeuvre spanning over thirty years of inventive compositions and performances.
