About Moondog Matinee & The Red Light District

Moe's Alley presents the Santa Cruz debut of gritty soul rockers Moondog Matinee for a special double bill along with The Redlight District on Wednesday, October 26th.

Best described as "pseudo-sexual anarchy with an inkling of lustful innocence," Moondog Matinee is a 5-peice band of wandering heathens from Reno, NV. With a Rock & Soul sound as derivative, yet undeniably authentic, the chaotic grace that exudes from their live performance will haunt you for years to come. Lead by enigmatic front-man Peter Woolf Barnato, the group is comprised of Adam Carpenter (Bass), Steve Widmer (Guitars), Drea Ballard (Guitars), and Ben Ingle (Drums).

Part British invasion, part SF psychedelia, and a hefty dose of garage rock rich with grit and soul, Moondog Matinee is as retro as The Rolling Stones, The Faces, and The Band (from whose classic album they drew their name), but as current as the rock acts who've mined the blues this century - from The White Stripes to The Alabama Shakes.

ABOUT MOONDOG MATINEE
At first, the sound isn't heard. It's a feeling that starts in the soles of your feet and moves up the spine to infect the soul. When it comes out, it is as gritty as it is slick and shakes the rafters in one beautiful yalp. It's a sound felt a long time ago, back when men greater than us sought out to change the world. And when the world needs a change from us, the sound will be felt again. We are Moondog Matinee and this is live.

In 2011, the band released their debut album, Vacancy at the Wonder Lodge, later performing at Life as Beautiful Festival and Psychedelic Holiday Freak Out in Seattle. Following their sophomore release, Carry Me, Rosie, the band's polished sound and rabid fan base landed them headlining performances at Offbeat Festival, Hard Rock Hotel, Lightning in a Bottle, and more.

In 2016, Moondog Matinee signed with management company, I Dreamt Last Night (Thievery Corp, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob), and released their first live EP, Live From the Moon Room. The 4-track release debuted on national radio in tandem with their headlining performance at the 2016 Reno Sculpture Fest. Music videos for "Gold" and "Ghost Dime" premiered on The Reno Sessions in July 2016. Their track "Bourbon Street" was also featured nationally in a recent Harley Davidson commercial, and their distinct sound continues to gain recognition.

ABOUT THE REDLIGHT DISTRICT
The Redlight District is a psychedelic rock and roll quartet from Santa Cruz, California. The band is comprised of Stephan Sams (vocals), Ravi Lamb (lead guitar), Dan Leitner (keyboards), and Keoki Thompson (drums). Their frenetic live performances blend elements of delta blues, jazz melody, and soul, weaving meticulously embellished, percussive guitar lines with dynamically intricate rock-organ. Thompson brings a relentless battery of off-kilter beats to the table, locking-in with Leitner's bass hooks. These provide a backdrop for Sams' baritone croon, which moves from tranquil melody into manic wails.
