Mighty Mike Schermer: 50th Birthday Celebration

When Willie Dixon, Bonnie Raitt and Elvin Bishop all sing your praises as a blues guitarist, you know you’re on to something. A longtime fixture on the Bay Area blues scene, Mighty Mike Schermer has since expanded the reach of his fretboard and amps to stages across the globe (including all 50 states) and extensive work with Austin-based, modern-day blues legend Marcia Ball. Deemed a “funky and authentic” player by Raitt, Schermer’s life course was set after a 1984 Albert Collins concert, and he’s been devoted to the blues ever since. Collin’s encouragement for the young guitarist to study T-Bone Walker ensured that some Texas shuffle found its way into Schermer’s sound. His latest album, 2015’s Blues In Good Hands is another fine chapter in his career, which has been highlighted by collaborations with Dixon, Raitt, Ruth Brown, Booker T. Jones, Maria Muldaur and more, as well as a host of various blues awards and California Music Award nominations and wins. With Mighty Mike, the blues surely is in good and expertly capable hands.
