Portland songstress MAITA’s debut EP, Waterbearer, is a rallying cry for the quiet warrior, the inquisitive seeker & the fierce lover. MAITA's folk songs are visceral experiences, tied together by intricate fingerpicking, unexpected melodies & chord changes reminiscent of Elliot Smith. ISMAY represents the work of singer, guitarist & songwriter Avery Hellman. Avery was brought up on legendary bluegrass and folk musicians such as Doc Watson, Hazel Dickens & Townes Van Zandt. Over the years, the sounds of Captain Beefheart, Cat Power & Phosphorescent blended to influence Ismay’s carefully constructed lyrics and melodies simply described as folk.
