About Maile Andrade: Dyes & Textiles in Indonesia

Maile Andrade was born in M?kaha, O?ahu. After attending Kaua?i Community College, she received her BA in 1989 from the University of Hawai?i at Hilo. Maile also received her MFA from the University of Hawai?i at M?noa in Ceramics/Fiber. Currently, she serves as the Director and Associate Professor at Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies and teaches Halau o Laka: Native Hawaiian Creative Expression. Maile is a multi-media artist who works with glass, fibers, metal and other natural materials. Her work aims to explore nature, spirituality, culture and to “challenge the use of native stereotypes and imagining the Native Hawaiian.” She is very involved in producing her own raw materials and dyes for her artwork. Her work has been shown in galleries across the world.
