About Lovefest 2015 featuring Elephino
In the short time that the trio Elephino was together, they left an indellible mark on the South Bay music scene. Their music - a blend of funk and acid jazz filled with vituosic improvistaion - was immediately familiar yet unquestionably unique to anyone who heard it and their short-lived time together manifested in a meteoric rise in local popularity. Within 3 months of their inception, they found themselves playing to packed rooms throughout the Bay Area, culminating in multiple sets at the High Sierra Music Festival and a few regional tours. The individual members - being involved in a host of other projects - found it difficult to continue and, to the dismay of fans, the band dissolved within a couple of years. But that was a decade ago...
Lives went on, other projects came and went, families were raised and, to a great degree, the three members (Pete Novembre on bass, Bret Bailey on drums and Nick Chargin on keyboards and vocals) fell out of touch with one another. Fast forward to the summer of 2014 at a South Bay music festival... Pete and Nick both happened to be playing with their respective current projects and finally reconnected (and both expressed how much they missed playing with one another). It didn't take long (or any convincing) for the idea of a reunion show to take hold. "We're all really excited for this", stated Chargin. "We fell right back into the groove with one another, but now we have 10 years more playing experience under our belts...the rehearsals have been like the old Elephino on steroids."
While they will be playing as a trio, there are hints of some special guests as well. "We have some surprises in store for our fans and friends" says Chargin. "This is going to be a really special night for us and it's important to us that it is just as special for everyone that makes it out. I think people will be blown away by some of the things we have on tap for them...we can't wait..."
Elephino will be playing the Love Fest at Don Quixote's International Music Hall with very special guests Grampa's Chili and Corduroy Jim on Saturday, March 21st. Music starts at 8pm. Ticket prices are $10 advance / $12 at the door.
