Local Artist Trunk Show (Umi by Noriko)
About Local Artist Trunk Show (Umi by Noriko)
This event marks the 10 year anniversary of Noriko showcasing her art here at Zinnia's - and she will be in store to promote her jewelry and meet with our customers. We encourage you to stop by to meet in person one of our favorite local artists!
About Umi by Noriko
She spent most of her “first” professional career as a marine biologist and then as a fisheries biologist. Her off time was also spent on the water, countless hours windsurfing on the San Francisco Bay and on the Sea of Cortez, in Baja California. But around 2005 or so, she began experimenting in crafting jewelry after losing one too many earrings at the dog park and at the beach.
In 2008, Noriko embarked on learning traditional jewelry fabrication techniques and completed rigorous coursework at the Revere Academy in San Francisco and further instruction at the Mendocino Art Center.
Noriko’s design aesthetic is influenced by the beachy vibe of her L.A. roots, contrasted with her love of open spaces and the environment of her mountain studio. Complex, varied, and unpredictable. Her jewelry combines argentium sterling silver, natural materials (can we say pearls!), and natural and synthetic stones in simple, yet elegant, and very wearable pieces!
