Katie Thiroux Trio with Justin Kauflin & Matt Witek

About Katie Thiroux Trio with Justin Kauflin & Matt Witek

A triple-threat talent, Katie Thiroux has garnered considerable attention for her bravura bass playing, assured singing and compelling compositions. With the 2016 release of her debut album, Katie Thiroux, her substantial gifts as a bandleader and recording office are now also showcased. Audiences and critics agree, as the album was named in many year-end debut best-of lists, including the NPR Jazz Critics Poll’s “The Top 5 Debut Records of the Year”. Lending contemporary flair to mainstream stylings, Thiroux carries on the hard-swinging tradition of such bass masters as Ray Brown and John Clayton, while channeling the buoyant vocal finesse of iconic singers including Anita O’Day and Chet Baker. Thiroux offers in-the-moment jazz that draws upon the rich history of the music, from swing to bebop and beyond. Her trio features pianist (and protégé of Clark Terry and Quincy Jones) Justin Kauflin and drummer Matt Witek.
