Julie Goldman/Marga Gomez: Straight Stand-Up
About Julie Goldman/Marga Gomez: Straight Stand-Up
Santa Cruz Fringe Productions presents:
JULIE GOLDMAN & MARGA GOMEZ
STRAIGHT STAND - UP
Irreverent. Outrageous. Hilarious. “Straight”? That’s not a word usually associated with either of these well-known Openly Gay, headling, comedians. But when these 2 comedy legends come together – what you can expect is a straight up good time! Julie Goldman and Marga Gomez have worked together many times over the years and finally they’re meeting in the middle in beautiful Santa Cruz, CA. Julie is heading up from LA, and Marga down from San Francisco, and once these two forces of comedy nature meet, it will be a night you won’t soon forget.
Julie Goldman, hailed as a leader of the next generation of queer humor, has been called “a master of irreverent cultural criticism who will have you roaring so hard that you reach the edge of tears and beyond … She is an absolute Must See.” (Provincetown Banner) Goldman describes herself as “the worst lesbian in the world” and is renowned for her brash mix of humor, observation, and music (she plays guitar at a third-grade level, specializing in lesbian folk-rock realness). Goldman has three TV comedy specials under her belt, which viewers have seen on LOGO, Showtime and Comedy Central. She has appeared on Fox’s Bones, RuPaul’s Drag U, Happy Endings, The Mindy Project, MTV’s Faking It, and has headlined stand-up performances all over the country. You can watch Julie now on Bravo’s THE PEOPLE’s COUCH and listen to her on THE GAYEST OF ALL TIME podcast.
Marga Gomez is a GLAAD award winning openly gay stand-up comedian and playwright. In 2015 she was named an "Agent Of Change" in the Huffington Post. Gomez was named "2015 Best LGBT Female Comedian" by The Bay Area Reporter in San Francisco. Her stand-up comedy appearances include LOGO's "One Night Stand Up" and HBO's "Comic Relief," by special invitation from Robin Williams who called Gomez "Amazing." Gomez's solo show Lovebirds was an audience favorite at the 2014 Santa Cruz Fringe Festival and earlier that year she performed stand-up comedy to an overflowing audience at UCSC's Oakes Center.
Gomez is the author and performer of eleven solo plays which have been produced nationally, internationally, and in New York at The Public Theater, Performance Space 122, and many other venues. Her acting credits include Off-Broadway and national productions of The Vagina Monologues and roles in Warner Bros films Sphere and Batman Forever. Her other awards include The Los Angeles "Ovation Award” for Best Featured Actress, and the 2010 Bay Area Critics Circle Award for "Best Performance." Gomez is a triple winner of the SF Bay Guardian's "Best Comedian" award. She is the recipient of KGO television's 2014 "Profile of Excellence" award and a nominee for the 2006 New York Drama Desk Award. Her website is www.margagomez.com.
