Julian Lage featuring Scott Colley and Kenny Wollesen

Few musicians have ascended to the top of the contemporary jazz scene as guitarist Julian Lage, though jazz is the tip of the genre iceberg when it comes to Lage’s stylistic capabilities. With a background in modern jazz, Lage employs spritely runs in his playing with folksy inflection that is not out of place in an Americana music setting. His latest album, Archlight, is his first released since moving largely to electric guitar and playing in a trio format (he cut his teeth playing vintage Martin acoustics, often in a solo or duo setting). Supported on record and onstage by bassist Scott Colley and drummer Kenny Wollesen, Arclight was recorded by Grammy-winning producer/songwriter Jesse Harris and is rich with sing-able melodies and rootsy arrangements. This new album and trio mark the opening paragraph of a new chapter in this exceptional instrumentalist’s budding career.
