About Joel Salatin Live! at the Rio Theatre

Joel Salatin is a third generation alternative farmer who resides with four generations of family on their 550 acre farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. The family’s farm, Polyface Inc.,“The Farm of Many Faces”, has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic, Gourmet and countless other radio, television and print media. It achieved iconic status as the grass farm featured in the New York Times bestseller "Omnivore's Dilemma" by food writer guru Michael Pollan and the award-winning film documentary, "Food Inc."

In addition to farming, Joel is an accomplished writer and has authored eight books including the hugely popular Folks, This Ain’t Normal, Everything I want to do is Illegal, and You Can Farm. A self-described “Lunatic Farmer”, his speaking and writing style reflects dirt-under-the-fingernails experience punctuated with mischievous humor. He passionately defends small farms, local food systems, and the right to opt out of the conventional food paradigm.

Proceeds from this event will go towards scholarships for the Grange Farm School and for the Corralitos Open Farm Tours ... both organizations supporting the next generation of community farming.
