About Jessie Street Marsh Awareness Festival

Jessie Street marsh is a piece of land that should be habitat for an abundance of species, including migratory birds, bats and tree frogs. This child friendly event will highlight the 1998 restoration plan and have yummy tamales, children's activities, and tours of the marsh! Our goal is to raise awareness of the marsh so that the city takes basic simple restoration actions as soon as possible, including by stopping the active pumping of water out of the marsh.

Jessie Street Marsh was slated to be restored as mitigation for the building of the Neary Lagoon wastewater treatment plant. However, the land has not been restored as was originally planned. The city continues to degrade the land, including by mowing during nesting season.

Let's raise awareness around this piece of land and help our Santa Cruz community hold space for wildlife!
