Location Loudan Nelson Center
Healing the Brain and Nervous System
with Beth Austin, PT and Lela Carney, LAc
Our nervous system is impacted by overwhelming experiences and this effects the basic functions of our bodies. There is also so much exciting news about how we can recover from stress/trauma and experience resilience and health.
In this workshop we will go over some of the physiology and research and overview different neuroplastic techniques that give us the power to radically change the body's resting state which is controlled by the deep non-conscious part of our nervous system.
Beth Austin has been a physical therapist for 30 years and a student and practitioner of osteopathic somatic work for 25 years. Following and supporting the expression of the body's wisdom is central in my training and deeply resonant in the work of neuroplasticity. The Gupta Amygdala Retraining Program has been foundational in transforming my experience of health.
Lela Carney, LAc, SEP has practiced acupuncture, Chinese/Asian and functional medicine since 1983 and yoga since 1971. Since 2010, she’s been immersed in Somatic Experiencing and related disciplines to offer deeper support for shock and developmental trauma. Combining yoga, traditional Chinese and functional medicine with nervous system re-regulation skills has helped many clients find greater stability, productivity and joy in life. She finds the Community Resiliency Model particularly beneficial for us to heal within our communities of support.
The Imagine Healing Workshop Series aims to provide resources to trauma survivors, allies, practitioners and community members. We all want to feel heard, understood, safe and nurtured. The workshops focus on retraining the nervous system, healthy relationships, compassionate communication, full embodiment and creating well being individually and in the community as a whole. Throughout the workshops we will learn tools that will help us create a more sustainable sense of personal and community wellbeing.
