About I Was Born in Mexico But..... - Reel Works Labor Film Festival

Two films portray the lives of undocumented young people who have lived most of their lives in the United States.
I Was Born in Mexico But...
(Corey Ohama, 2014, 12min, USA)
A creative portrait of a young woman who thought
she was a U.S. citizen but ands out as a teen that she
is undocumented. Because she doesn’t want to appear on camera, found footage from U.S. culture illuminates her voice as she struggles with her new identity and the reality of not being able to legally drive, work or reside in the U.S.

Life Deferred (Brenda Avila Hanna, 2017, 23min, USA)
The story of Vanessa, an undocumented teenager who was born in Mexico but has lived in the United States since she was six. After the announcement of the policy known as “Deferred Action,” Vanessa contemplates the possibility of a future she was ready to give up on. How will this life-changing opportunity impact her life and the lives of those around her?
