About Helping Your Child Become a Reader

Reading Aloud to Preschoolers to Build Early Reading Skills and a Joy of Reading. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents can do with their children. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination, expands their understanding of the world, helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. This workshop will focus on the power of reading aloud to your preschooler and to identify the ways a simple read aloud can be used as a strategy to help children build important foundational skills on their journey to becoming readers.

Presenter: Irene Freiburg, Master Literacy Coach for Santa Cruz County’s First 5, and Santa Cruz County Community Hero for 2008 & 2011.
