About Halloween Costume Contra Dance

Join us in a special Halloween dance as contra dancers return to the Veterans Memorial Hall in downtown Santa Cruz!

Dress up! Costume contest! Potluck snacks!

Contra dancing is a high-energy, creative, playful, social dance set to live music. "It's like creating your own amusement park ride as you dance!" Join this joyful, inclusive, friendly community. Everyone is welcome! Partners and dancing experience are not necessary. We teach and call each dance.

Newcomer workshop at 5:40pm before the 6pm dance.

Erik Hoffman will be calling to the music of Wayside (Ben Schreiber and Elizabeth Dequine on fiddles, Paul Machlis on keyboard).

Wayside joins fiddlers Ben Schreiber and Elizabeth Dequine with pianist Paul Machlis in a dynamic interplay of great dance tunes. Ben plays regularly for contradances with Uncle Farmer, Elizabeth is best known for her work with Celtic Spring, and Paul has played with Alasdair Fraser, Skyedance, and the Moving Cloud Orchestra.

Parking at River Front Parking Garage (4 hours for $2.25).

The hall is big enough for all expected dancers, so just come to the door…and enjoy!
