About Gozu and Ape Machine with KOOK and Winter Wind
Heavy San Jose and Tru Pharms are jamming over the hill to The Blue Lagoon for a massive night of rock and metal. Prepare for a bangover, this will be quite the heavy line-up.
For your listening pleasure:
GOZU (Boston, MA)
Gozu first emerged on the scene in 2010, after the release of their seven track, self-titled EP, Gozu heave the rock yet embody the soul on songs like human-liberation anthem “Rise Up”, and the D.A.R.E.-baiting “Meth Cowboy”. Fronted by Marc Gaffney vocals and guitar, Doug Sherman on guitar, Joe Grotto on bass, and Mike Hubbard on drums, Gozu’s sound is tailor-made for blasting out the car speakers via international radio airwaves.
Small Stone Records soon snapped up Gozu, releasing their critically acclaimed album "Locust Season" that same year. Gozu spent the next year touring the Northeast with bands like St. Vitus, Pallbearer, Lo Pan, Storm of Light, Helmet, Elder, Mos Generator, Church of Misery, and Fu Manchu.
Shadowing the success of Locust Season, Gozu returned to the studio in 2013, recording their sophomore full-length album "The Fury of a Patient Man". Late 2014 sends Gozu off on their first European tour, performing at both Roadburn in Tilburg, Netherlands, and DesertFest Berlin with Yob, Church of Misery and Kvelertak.
Gozu headed into Wild Arctic Studio in 2015, working with Dean Baltulonis (Primitive Weapon, Sick Of It All, Hatebreed) to record their much-celebrated third album, “Revival” (Ripple Music).
The year 2016 has brought Gozu front and center in the heavy rock and metal world. Gozu embarked on their second European tour, with Portland, Oregon’s own Holy Grove. Conquering seven countries to perform 20 shows in 20 days was a giant success to add to Gozu’s list of accomplishments.
Gozu now announces a new development in their signing on with Blacklight Media, a brand-new imprint from Metal Blade Records. Blacklight Media was founded by celebrity chef Chris Santos, in collaboration with Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel.
Ape Machine (Portland Oregon)
The name APE MACHINE is a nod to the days of reel-to-reel magnetic tape audio recording; a fitting moniker for the heavy-hitting quartet as the band plays through vintage tube amplifiers and lays down its songs using exclusively throwback quality studio equipment. With a heady mix of animal aggression and technical precision, APE MACHINE's music carries an organic depth and warmth rarely heard since the time of rock's glorious early years (or your Dad's bad ass record collection) infused with an exceptional modern sensibility. When the mystical lyrics of vocalist Caleb Heinze lock in with the band's stone-cold groove, APE MACHINE demonstrates an earth-shaking ability to rock. A true four-piece, the group has been called "a rock and roll band with a finger on the pulse of the 70's and their asses firmly in the present" and "real heavy-psych for the iPhone generation" that delivers "true guts and glory rock and roll."
Blending equal parts Rock n’ Roll, Blues, Stoner Rock and Psychedelia, Ape Machine is out to melt faces and pound the apathy out of otherwise jaded listeners with a wall of heavy rock n’ roll tones unheard since the days of bell bottoms, long hair and blaring tube amplifiers.
Ape Machine's mission is to combine intense melody, cutting riffs and blistering live improvisation. Where many bands rely on meticulously rehearsed, just-like-the-record-parts, Ape Machine provides a live experience that is as unique as each evening it shares with an audience.
KOOK (San Jose, CA)
What is a KooK? It's the incredible combination of volume, substance(s), and love for all things heavy. We've all been in so many bands covering so many styles of heavy music, that it's hard to boil down what we do into a few words. KooK is made up of former members of: High on Fire, Sin City/Motorfly, Kill Sister Kill, Imperial Spacepod, Kinabra, Morticias Blues, and The Stumps. We love blues, heavy metal, psych, and of course the king of rock and roll-Elvis. The music is rich, complicated, hypnotic, dark, spooky, sleazy, powerful, groovy, campy, blah, blah, blah....HEAVY.
Winter Wind (Salinas, CA)
Heavy rock n roll from Salinas/ Santa Cruz.
