About Garden Docent Training at UCSC Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Become a Garden Docent at the Arboretum. Meet visitors from around the world, help them explore the gardens, and share your enjoyment of the birds and our spectacular, global plant collections.

Give back to the Arboretum through volunteer service as a Garden Docent!

We are looking for at least 20 friendly faces to join our Docent crew. Docents welcome and connect visitors to the awesome gardens on the weekends. Shifts start at just 2 hours in length, and a regular weekly commitment is preferred. No prior experience is necessary. Students, working adults, retired folks, and all of you who like both plants and people are invited to volunteer.

Join us for a Saturday training designed to help volunteers provide basic orientation and informal interpretation to diverse visitors. Following the training on 8/31, volunteer docents will be invited to quarterly enrichment workshops to deepen understanding of the Arboretum and its unique botanical treasures. Volunteering with a friend is even more fun, so consider signing up for training with a friend or classmate.

Snacks will be provided!
