Film Screening: An Opera of the World by Manthia Diawara

UC Santa Cruz's Institute of the Arts and Sciences presents a screening of An Opera of the World by Malian filmmaker, Manthia Diawara. The film revolves around a performance of Bintou Were, a Sahel Opera in Bamako, and interweaves interviews with documentary and archival footage as a meditation on the relations between Europe and Africa that have led to the current refugee crisis. An Opera of the World first premiered at dOCUMENTA 14 in Kassel, Germany. The screening will be followed at 7 p.m. by a talk by Manthia Diawara.
