Expansions: Dave Liebman Group

Saxophonist Dave Liebman's career reaches back to the halcyon days of the late '60s jazz/rock movement as a former member of Ten Wheel Drive. Like many saxophonists of his generation, Liebman was heavily influenced by John Coltrane and the avant garde. In the early '70s, Liebman played with Elvin Jones (Coltrane's former drummer) before being snapped up by trumpet legend Miles Davis. Now, like Miles and Elvin before him, the veteran jazzman mentors the next generation of young up-and-coming musicians with his “Expansions” project. His current group features Bobby Avey – keyboards; Matt Vashlishan – reeds, flute, EWI; Alex Ritz – drums; and longtime bassist Tony Marino.
