Espressivo's Heavenly Delights

About Espressivo's Heavenly Delights

Conducted by Michel Singher and featuring soprano Maya Kherani, Espressivo -- a small, intense orchestra -- will perform an arrangement by Klaus Simon of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4.

The last great symphony of the nineteenth century, the Fourth incorporates folk-like verses, melodies and dances into an exploration of death and the heavenly afterlife. This blend of the naive and the sophisticated has made it the most accessible of Mahler's symphonies, and the most popular. It is also the most intimate, and retains its eloquence in this recent reduction for fourteen players. Soprano Maya Kherani ("Sensational!"--San Francisco Classical Voice) will provide an up-to-the minute report on doings in heaven.
