Born in 2015, Oakland's "El Duo" blends lo-fi electronics and afro dance grooves with a natural sense of wonder. Drawing from their deep love of improvisation, drummer/producer Randy Schwartz (Brett Dennen, Illumination) & keyboardist Harrison Murphy (Sun Hop Fat, Harry & the Hitmen) curate unique and inspired soundscapes for audiences. El Duo weaves together its unabashed brand of experimental dance music under an umbrella of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. The witty pair approaches their concerts with a raw and loose fervor, often featuring special guests, which gives each of their shows its own distinct magic and character.

Mild-mannered Scott Makson has been building instruments for ten years and playing them for over twice that. An interest in electronics led to circuit bending, and to a search for new ways to create music and interact with sound. A piano player by nature, Scott wanted a portable keyboard instrument he could play and sing along with. Not content with an accordion, he built the first melodicoat out of random bits and thrift store finds. It grew and evolved into a modular musical wardrobe, drawing on skills in acoustics, electronics, sewing, and programming. Melodicas + Air Matteress Pump + Arduino + Power Glove + Boom Box Backpack + Microphonic Sunglasses + Wireless transmission = Scotty Maxx. Mr. Maxson is also well known for his work with the psychedelic soul outfit Harry & the Hit Men and with post-rockers The Terrible!
