David Zimmerman, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: "How Parkinson’s Disease Impacts the Family”
About David Zimmerman, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: "How Parkinson’s Disease Impacts the Family”
Overview: The impact of Parkinson’s Disease can tear a family apart and it can also bring it closer together. The intention of this talk is to increase understanding and encourage discussion about how to better manage the stressful issues as well as how to enhance the possibilities for positive transformation within the family living with Parkinson’s Disease.
There are three major forces that impact families:
The extended family, living autonomous lives for years, must now come together and organize themselves around the needs of their Loved One.
There is enormous stress placed upon family members who become care-givers.
The existential angst each person in the family experiences when a Loved One is seriously ill is deeply disturbing.
Dr. Zimmerman will discuss the issues that must be addressed and how conflicts might be resolved.
David Zimmerman, LMFT, has been a licensed family therapist since 1985. He has worked with families in a number of different clinical settings throughout the years. His current interest is to work with families as they provide care for their ill seniors. He has a private counseling practice in Soquel, CA.
The Santa Cruz County Parkinson’s Group will be meeting from 2:00-3:30 pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, in Parrish Hall at the Congregational Church of Soquel, 4951 Soquel Dr. This is the first meeting in the new location and at the new time of 2 pm. All are welcome to attend this meeting and there is no fee to attend. For questions, contact Karen Williams at 831-708-2906.
