Brazilian Jazz at Kuumbwa

Kuumbwa Jazz Center proudly presents the North American premier of ALMIR CORTES’ CD “Trançado.” The album’s title roughly translates to “braided” or “interwoven,” reflecting the repertoire’s mix of Brazilian folkloric rhythms and forms with jazz improvisation, as well as the interchange between Brazil and the USA.
Côrtes, a master of mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars, is joined by: saxophonist/clarinetist HARVEY WAINAPEL (played with Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Ray Charles, Joe Lovano, Jovino Santos Neto, Guinga, Paulo Bellinati); bassist SCOTT THOMPSON (played with Chico Pinheiro, Marcos Silva, Omar Sosa, Toninho Horta); and percussionist BRIAN RICE ( played with Rogério Souza, Danilo Brito, Dudu Maia, and Mike Marshall).
