Branciforte Creek Bridge Ribbon Cutting
About Branciforte Creek Bridge Ribbon Cutting
The City of Santa Cruz invites the community to celebrate both the launch of Go Santa Cruz and the ribbon-cutting for the Branciforte Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge and Multi-Use Trail Project. The event takes place at the north end of the new bridge at the southern end of San Lorenzo Park. The location can be accessed via the San Lorenzo Riverwalk or Dakota Avenue.
Go Santa Cruz is a central part of Santa Cruz’s ongoing effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and play an active role in addressing the issue of climate change. The program promotes numerous transportation options within the City of Santa Cruz and encourages residents to try biking, walking, carpooling and transit for their daily trips.
The Branciforte Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge and Multi-Use Trail Project, which opened to the public on Sept. 1, serves a wide spectrum of active transportation users. The project includes a bike and pedestrian bridge and multi-use path from San Lorenzo Park over Branciforte Creek and under the Soquel Avenue Bridge, completing the gap in the 5-mile Riverwalk system that runs north-south through the center of Santa Cruz. The $1.8 million in state grant funds that paid for most of the project contribute to more than $18 million in competitive grants the City has achieved since 2011 for projects to improve biking and walking.
