About Billy Cobham's "Spectrum 40"

Drummer Billy Cobham returns with his group Spectrum 40. Originally formed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Spectrum, his recording debut as a bandleader and now considered a jazz/fusion classic, the album showcased Cobham’s talents as an innovative drummer with a distinctive sound. It also drew attention to his budding compositional skills. A former sideman for Horace Silver, Ron Carter, and Miles Davis, it was Cobham’s long stint in John McLaughlin’s early ’70s Mahavishnu Orchestra that drew attention to his high-energy, ambidextrous drumming.
