About Bike Week, May 1-May 8

Ecology Action is gearing up for our 28th Annual Spring Bike To Work program, which
runs from Friday May 1 to Friday May 8. We have a spoke-tastic line-up of events that you won't want to miss!

Participate in a number of our Bike Week events for a chance to win a Blix electric bike!

Friday, May 1
Bike Night First Friday at the Museum of Art & History (5pm to 9pm): First Friday Bike Night at the Museum of Art & History represents the kick-off celebration to Bike Week! Bike Night is a family-friendly, inclusive experience for community members to come learn about local bike resources and celebrate biking in Santa Cruz. The event features a host of activities including a student art contest winner showcase, freestyle trials bike stunt shows by Matt Meyer, and a local artists bike themed art fair, with art and crafts for sale. Celebration activities include free helmets, spin bike art, bike decorating, helmet stenciling, and an 8pm Tie Dye Community Bike Ride led by Bike Santa Cruz County. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated bike!


Saturday, May 2
Santa Cruz County Cycling Club Group Rides (depending on which ride you choose you will have either an 8:45 or 9:45am start time): These group rides are a great way to get to know other community members, learn new bike routes and build your skills. There will be 3 group rides for all levels including a 'Gentle Pace', 'Intermediate Pace' and 'Faster Pace' ride. Visit their website for more details.


Sunday, May 3
Rail Corridor Cleanup (10am to Noon): Join Friends of the Rail & Trail and Save Our Shores for a cleanup along the railroad tracks from east of San Lorenzo River Trestle to 17th Avenue. Meet at intersection of Seabright and Murray St. Save Our Shores will be providing all cleanup supplies including buckets, bags, latex gloves, grabbers and more. Friends of the Rail & Trail will be on site providing information on the proposed 32-mile Rail Trail from Davenport to Watsonville with this segment being a central piece of the paved path. Cleanup volunteers will receive a 20% off coupon from Patagonia Santa Cruz and happy hour discounts all day long from the Seabright Brewery! Snacks and refreshments will be provided at the cleanup

Watershed Tour Group Ride (12:30pm-1:30pm): Join the Coastal Watershed Council (CWC) on a fun, family-friendly group ride. Meet at the Boardwalk Trestle Bridge on the Boardwalk side of the bridge. The ride will follow the Riverwalk path
and loop around. Participants will learn about the work of the San Lorenzo River Alliance and what's happening at the river.


Tuesday, May 5
Cycle & Dine: Restaurants across Santa Cruz County will be providing cyclists with discounts! Be ready to show your helmet to your server upon arrival and ask for the 'Cycle & Dine' discount. Participating restaurants include:
Charlie Hong Kong: Offering 10% off any signature bowl, rice bowl, soup, salad, sandwich (drinks and cookies excluded)
Chocolate: Offering a 15% discount
Surfrider Cafe: Offering a 25% discount and will be generously donating an additional 15% of cyclists' checks to the Bike To Work program!
Severino's Bar & Grill: OFfering a 15% discount (excluding alcohol)
Seabright Brewery: Offering a 20% off non-happy hour items
Midtown Cafe: Offering a special Cyclists Breakfast option
Wednesday, May 6
Gear Up Day: Bike shops across the County will be providing discounts on bike gear! You don't need to bike to the shops but when you arrive make sure the sales team knows you're there for "Gear Up Day". Participating bike shops include:
Spokesman Bicycles: Offering 20% off accessories and 10% off bikes
Epicenter Cycling: Offering a 20% off clothing, parts and accessories
Bike Station Aptos: Offering 15% off accessories and 25% off clothing
Another Bike Shop: Offering 20% off clothing, parts and accessories
Family Cycling Center:Offering a 10% discount on regularly prices parts and accessories
Bicycle Trip: Offering a 15% off lights, locks, helmets and bags
Sprockets: Offering a 15% discount on all items including bikes

Thursday, May 7
Bike To Work/School Day (6:30am-9:30am)
Visit our Breakfast Sites page for a complete list of our 13 public breakfast sites across Santa Cruz County. Cyclists will be able to receive a free breakfast, free bike maintenance, raffle prizes and more!


Friday, May 8
Bike Party Group Ride (7-9pm): Santa Cruz Bike Party will be leading a family-friendly group ride! Meet at the Bike Church at 703 Pacific Ave in Santa Cruz. The theme is PROM so bust out those old sequin dresses and suspenders. Prizes for best dressed!
