The benefits of mindfulness are being extolled in the media. They include:
• Helping bring a greater sense of well-being and satisfaction in life
• Helping relieve physical stress related symptoms. Mindfulness can reduce tension, lessen chronic pain, improve sleep, lower blood pressure.
• Helping manage anxiety, worry, depression, improve memory.

When we live more completely in the present moment, we can drop habitual preoccupation with the past, the future, and judgments of self and others.

We refine, deepen and stabilize mindfulness through sitting meditation. But mindfulness is most effective when it is also consciously cultivated in everyday activity. We learn to be mindful “off the cushion.” No matter what we are doing we can become more present and aware. This can lower our reactivity and help us live life more fully.

In this class, we will practice silent meditation but we will also discover tricks and strategies for being more awake and aware throughout our day.

This class will include:
• meditation instructions and meditations sessions
• group discussion and Q & A
• weekly guided audio and readings

Mindfulness is part of a larger group of teachings in Buddhism that can lead to spiritual maturity, increased compassion and inner freedom. These qualities contribute to more peace in our lives and in the world around us.
