About ANDY FUHRMAN & FRIENDS
ANDY FUHRMAN & FRIENDS: Taking KPIG Radio DJ Sleepy John's advice “You guys are great, a fun band with a great choice of songs and it really sounds good. I think this guy should be playing around town more", Andy Fuhrman brings together a powerhouse of iconic local musicians with his wonderful set of original tunes and covers to Don Quixote's for the first time. Before moving to Santa Cruz in 1971, Andy Fuhrman grew up on the streets of Brooklyn singing acapella doo-wop tunes. Since moving to town, he's developed a love for singing classic country tunes from artists such as George Jones, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Larry Hosford, John Prine, Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff Walker as well as country-folk artists Townes van Zandt, Gram Parsons and Tom Waits – mixed in with some Ray Charles and Van Morrison. This show brings together Andy's dream team of Harpin Jonny Troutner (Harmonica with Larry Hosford band), Patti Maxine (Steel Guitar), Dan Frechette (Lead Guitar), Billy Rogers (Drums) and Jerry Whitney (Bass). Performing throughout Santa Cruz as a solo act and with a full band since 2009, Andy has begun playing in the western states and is planning a solo tour throughout the United States in 2017.
CRUZ CONTROL got together 5 years ago at a Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz meeting. Since then, they have blossomed into Santa Cruz's most requested trio. With Stan Parola on lead guitar, ukulele, vocals & harmonica, Gary (aka Sweet Pea) Cunningham plays bass, ukulele & backup vocals and rounding out the trio is Vince Tuzzi performing lead vocals, playing rhythm guitar and ukulele. For this concert the impeccable steel guitar playing of Ms. Patti Maxine will be sittin' in with them. Cruz Control's songs range from covers of Neil Young, Guy Clark, John Prine, Beatles, Jerry Jeff Walker, Traveling Wilbury's, Roy Orbison, Eric Clapton and the Eagles just to name a few. This is will be the bands fifth time to play Don Quixote's and they've always left the audience asking for more. All four are seasoned musicians with nothing but crowd-pleasing sounds to each concert they perform. This is one you do not want to miss.
