About An Evening with Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin
7pm show and 9pm show
Guitar ace Lee Ritenour began working with top recording professionals while still in his teens. Nicknamed “Captain Fingers” (the title of his third album) for his virtuosic guitar skills, Ritenour rode the electric jazz/fusion wave of the late '70s into national prominence. A founding member of Fourplay—the longtime L.A. super-group with Harvey Mason, Nathan East and Bob James—Lee's smooth, melodic style inspired an entire generation of guitarists. Pianist Dave Grusin is one of the most prolific producer/arrangers of the last five decades. Grusin's GRP label has recorded the crème de la crème of the jazz and smooth jazz world. His compositions for film and television soundtracks have won several awards, including ten Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for The Milagro Beanfield War. One of those Grammys went to the Grusin and Ritenour’s1985 collaboration Harlequin. More recently, their classical-influenced albums Two Worlds and Amparo, were nominated for Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2008 respectively. Come hear for yourself what AllMusicReview calls, “sheer artistry” as these two masters bridge the worlds of jazz and classical music.
