About Agouti w/ Dreaming Ghosts and Rev Stephan Sam
Agouti
Agouti is a psychedelic rock band that surfaced from songwriter and producer Carmen Caruso after a trip to Costa Rica’s cloud forests. Escaping from chronic fatigue and dysfunctional routine, she ruminated on what to do next. Caruso realized many of her musical facets - early experiences in choir, infatuation with 60s and 70s rock, forays into building new instruments, and making experimental music - all oscillated around psychedelic rock.
When Caruso returned home to San Francisco, she started down a path to produce her own brand of psychedelic music. She created a recording studio in her basement, gutting the entire room and rebuilding it into a soundproof space. She fixed up a 70s bass amp, a 4-track reel-to-reel, and a vintage mixer. Finally, she began writing a new set of songs. It was during this incubation period that she found kindred spirits David Rabkin, Dakota Salazar, and Leanne Kelly. These three helped flesh out Agouti's sound as Caruso set to work recording their first two singles. The end results, "Summertime" and "Chameleon", have been featured in The Bay Bridged, Deli Magazine, and included in KQED's Mixtape of up-and-coming psychedelic bands.
Dreaming Ghosts
Dreaming Ghosts hail from Santa Cruz?, CA. The band is a collective of musicians from national touring bands including The Brothers Comatose and The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men. They formed as an outlet to wade in the waters of heavier and more experimental musical ideas. There are no rules but to explore the unknown. Debut self titled EP is out
Reverand Stephan Sams
Originally from Salinas, California, the Reverend draws from a lifetime of observing a reality beyond the peripheries of law and god. His driving confessionals are hallucinatory visions of apocalypse that touch at times on the woes of poverty and ostracism, as well as the reckless abandon from concerns thereof. Brimming with vitriol, he is known to display his conviction and virtuosity by playing behind his back on a whim or by scaling the bass drum that he employs for battery to coax the flames from the souls of the audience before punctuating the moment with a declarative and searing guitar run. The influences are clear; steeped in blues, the demons catch only a glimpse of daylight before retreating back into the gutters of rock and roll, where tatters of flamenco and folk mire the pot to create an ominous abyss that explodes with something both traditional and modern. With a loop station and menagerie of toys - including harmonica, bottleneck-slide, and tambourine - the Reverend is a quintessential one-man band.
