About African Guitar Summit: Masters from Guinea, Ghana, Madagascar

With roots across the African continent, yet a beginning in Canada, the African Guitar Summit is truly a unique project and melding of talents. Spurred by collaboration for a Toronto CBC radio broadcast, the resulting album, African Guitar Summit, Vol. 1, won the 2005 Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year. Consisting of Alpha YaYa Diallo from Guinea, Donne Roberts and Madagascar Slim hailing from the aforementioned island, Kofi Ackah from Ghana on drums, and Guinea’s Naby Camara on marimba and bass, the Summit is a collaboration that knows no borders and is filled with musical stories, sparkling individual showcases and inspiring collaborations. The group’s second album, African Guitar Summit, Vol. 2 was released in 2006, and led to continued acclaim and performances, including a set at the Toronto portion of the Live 8 global charity concerts.
