About 10,000 Maniacs to perform at The Rio Theatre on Wednesday, August 2nd

Founded in the fall of 1981 in Jamestown, NY, 10,000 Maniacs has won the hearts and ears of music fans around the world selling over 10 million records. Together with artists like R.E.M. and The Replacements, they helped define ???college rock??? and the first wave of ???alternative rock??? bands with their pop-conscious, literate and lush aesthetic.

2017 marks the the 30 year anniversary of the release of their critically acclaimed, break-out album, In My Tribe, which Rolling Stone Magazine included in their "100 Best Albums Of The Eighties." The band will perform most of the songs from this recording at this show.

In June of 2016, the band released Playing Favorites on Omnivore Recordings. This stellar live recording was the follow up to the band???s highly acclaimed 2015 release Twice Told Tales, a full-length collection of traditional British Isles folk songs. Bill Kopp of Musoscribe.com said this about Playing Favorites noting "That quality is a testament to just how much of the group???s overall sound was truly a function of the group. And if you like any of their music ??? from any era ??? even a little bit, you???ll surely enjoy this flawlessly-recorded, meticulously-played live set recorded in September 2014 in front of a hometown crowd in Jamestown NY. Auxiliary players fill in the fiddly bits to present a very likable set of Just Like the Record music. A cover of Roxy Music???s 'More Than This' feels right at home with the group???s original material. There???s never been a proper career-spanning best-of compilation of 10,000 Maniacs music, but Playing Favorites fills that space well enough. "

10,000 Maniacs include: Mary Ramsey, lead Vocals, viola; Steven Gustafson, bass guitar; Dennis Drew, keyboard, vocals; Jeff Erickson, guitar, vocals; John Lombardo, guitar, vocals; and Jerome Augustyniak, drums.
