Santa Cruz is Homebrewing Hub

Beer is a beloved member of my inner circle. To simply classify it as a beverage omits the strong artistic connection I feel to it, and the instant bond it creates with other like-minded brew-philes. So I decided to put some DIY where my mouth is and make my own. In the Santa Cruz community, I am certainly not alone.

James Hoffner, a member of the Santa Cruz-based brewing supply co-op Seven Bridges, says brewing is booming, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

In the hope of preventing a new generation of disgruntled Yelpers, I’ve compiled a list of tips for diners that could help make the lives of both sides easier. Are there exceptions to these rules? The 12,600-square-foot Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center is as vibrant and inventive a window on the ocean as one could hope for. Standing sentinel as a guardian of sea life at the mouth of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, the admission-free educational center opened to the public on July 23, 2012, and schools of curious observers have been flowing freely through the two-story center since.

‘There is innate beauty in things that are highly functional,” explains Bernie Tershy as he stands proudly and comfortably inside his award-winning home on Alta Avenue.
