Bad News for Cowell Beach

Doesn't look like the worst water in the state.

Heal the Bay of Santa Monica released its annual Report Card for the state’s beaches yesterday. It was bad news for Cowell Beach. Not only did it receive an F. It was deemed the worst beach in the state, or rather, the “monitoring location with the worst dry weather water quality.”

Bryan Stow’s Family Sues The Dodgers

The family of paramedic Bryan Stow filed suit against the Los Angeles Dodgers and team owner Frank McCourt on Tuesday. The suit claims that the team was negligent in providing security to fans. It is therefore responsible for Stow’s beating on March 31 in Dodger Stadium’s parking lot. The suit further claimed that Dodger Stadium is the most violent stadium in all of Major League Baseball, with more crimes committed there than in any other stadium.

Warrants Served in Stow Beating

A Los Angeles SWAT team descended on an East Hollywood apartment on Sunday and detained several people. The arrests were connected with the beating of Santa Cruz resident Bryan Stow in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Stow is still in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital.

‘Landslide’: SC Anthem?

When Stevie Nicks wrote the words “I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills, till the landslide brought me down,” she could have been thinking about Santa Cruz. The Sentinel reports that ccording to the California Geological Survey, the county has one of the highest risks of landslides in all of Northern California. Says State Supervising Engineering Geologist Chris Wills, “Santa Cruz stands out even within the Bay Area because it has higher mountains, steeper slopes, and it has weaker rocks.”
