Our picks for the don’t-miss events in Santa Cruz this weekend:

VERSA-STYLE DANCE: Tune in to America’s Best Dance Crew and you’re sure to see a lot of fast, gritty hip-hop, stylized from the street to the stage with flips, tricks and gyrating hips. Versa-Style works differently, utilizing that same high energy (and some of the same gyrations) to leave an audience feelin’ good when they step off the stage. Their newest production, “Positive Dose,” incorporates theater and multimedia to address themes of overcoming fear and personal empowerment. https://www.santacruz.com/versa-style-dance-e1757081

SAVE THE WAVES FILM FESTIVAL: For three consecutive Fridays in November, the nonprofit Save the Waves Film Festival travels to Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and San Francisco to raise funds for the great big blue in three of California’s premiere coastal getaways, providing a space on land for environmentalists and surfer dudes to unite in a common cause. All proceeds benefit the Save the Waves Coalition and World Surfing Reserves. https://www.santacruz.com/save-the-waves-film-festival-e1728902

MOVIES AT THE MUSEUM: SERENITY: And if the ocean’s not your thing, maybe Joss Whedon’s space western Serenity will float your intergalactic boat. This month’s installment of Weird Science at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History investigates the real facts behind the futuristic science fiction, enlisting the help of former NASA Quality Assurance Engineer Barry Grimm to give us the scoop on Space Junk and, hopefully, all the best Space Garage Sales. https://www.santacruz.com/movies-at-the-museum-weird-science-featuring-serenity-e1734981

TITUS ANDRONICUS: The rousing, punch-drunk punk rock of Titus Andronicus comes off like the pub-soaked offspring of The Pogues and Against Me. Singer Patrick Stickles leads the band through anthems for literate underachievers, songs of rage and disenfranchisement for the smartest (and drunkest) guy sitting in the bar. While the ground Titus Andronicus covers is familiar, the results feel utterly original, buoyed by arrangements that include unusual elements such as fiddle and the sort of righteous passion that, when wielded by the right set of musicians, can make the oldest punk rock tricks seem new and vital once again. https://www.santacruz.com/titus-andronicus-e1754722

LIFE ON THE RANCH DAY: Life on the Ranch Day celebrates the days of yore with fun for the whole family. Partake in hands-on activities and think back to a time before iPhones with living history demonstrations and reenactments. Document them all via Instagram. https://www.santacruz.com/life-on-the-ranch-day-e1757101
