Sunset Beach is a long, wide, sandy stretch of shoreline with plenty of room to lay out, admire the unparalleled views of Monterey Bay and, duh, watch spectacular sunsets.
Peaceful and with all the amenities a camper or day-tripper could want, including a glider port for remote control glider enthusiasts, it’s obvious why this beach is one of the most beloved in Santa Cruz County.
The pine forest backing the beach is honeycombed with campsites complete with bathrooms, picnic tables, grills, water and fire pits.
Take note, though: strong rip tides mean swimming isn’t recommended except for very strong swimmers.
