Get ready all you adrenaline junkies out there because the 39th annual Radical Reels Tour is on its way to Santa Cruz. Over the past three months the Banff Mountain Film Festival has been trailblazing its way through more than 65 locations across the United States and will be stopping at our very own Rio Theatre on Saturday, September 26. The Radical Reels Tour, presented by National Geographic and MSR, will show more than half a dozen of the most daring, treacherous, and jaw dropping action films of 2015.
Every year Radical Reels searches the globe for films that showcase the indomitable spirit of extreme athletes as they tackle a new sport or undertake a heart-stopping adventure. In Desert Ice, we are introduced to American ice climbers in Southwest Utah as they search for Zion Ice and what they find is far beyond their expectations. Other films such as Little Red Bus, out of France, show high-flying, straight up silly parachuting that should not be tried at home. And finally, my personal favorite and winner of the Banff Festival’s grand prize, Valley Uprising. Yosemite rock climbing has long been seen as one of the most dangerous and difficult feats on the planet. Valley Uprising gives us an inside look at the people, the partying, and the pursuit of elevation that these intrepid climbers faced day in and day out. Over half a century of gravity breaking has set the stage for this unbelievable adventure. This is one film you won’t want to miss.
To experience all of the gut wrenching action yourself, make sure to grab a couple tickets of your own. You can find tickets at brownpaperticket.com or in person at Tomboy Clothing or Epicenter Cycling in Santa Cruz. Bike, run, surf, ski, or fly to one of these places now to (vicariously) experience the thrill of a lifetime.
