Break out the belly laughs for a star-studded series of comedic events hosted by Santa Cruz’s own comic and MC extraordinaire, DNA, during the month of July at The Center Street Theater in downtown Santa Cruz.
With help from some of the Bay Area’s most talented funny people, DNA, who put on the Santa Cruz Comedy Festival earlier this year and hosts regular events like Comedy Night on Thursdays at the Blue Lagoon, will present four unique and not-to-be-missed productions at the downtown venue.
“It’s a Pop-Up Comedy Club, a mini-season of what I would do if I had my own theater,” he says.
The series kicks-off on Friday, July 17 with a live recording session featuring The Santa Cruz Comedy Coalition, a troop of 30 local comedians who will perform improv and stand-up during two shows at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. A CD of the performances will be released later this year.
On Saturday, July 18, Larry “Bubbles” Brown takes to the stage for two performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. A star of the hit documentary, Three Still Standing, Brown has been performing for more than thirty years after getting his start at legendary San Francisco clubs The Punch Line and Holy City Zoo. The man with the deadpan, self-deprecating humor will present the West Coast premier of his one-man show.
Submitted for your approval, Fringe Theatre presents the first ever Santa Cruz stage adaptation of Rod Serling’s TV classic, The Twilight Zone, complete with local commercials.
