Another beautifully diverse week of music coming at you, even if it is tinged with a hint of Bowie-less sadness. Get out there and dance about it.
Wednesday, January 13
Formerly everyone’s favorite obscure indie band, the West Palm Beach based Surfer Blood has come a long way since 2009. With three albums, tours spanning 5 continents, and shows with legends like The Pixies and Guided by Voices under their collective belt, it’s safe to say the boys have made it out of the underground. Tickets: $15 adv/$18 door
Thursday, January 14
Sea Knight at The Crepe Place
With an ethereal, almost creepy vibe, the SF based group Sea Knight is one of those bands people stop and stare at through the venue window. Even if you’re not quite sure what’s going on, you know you should probably stick around. Their songs are sweeping, melodic, grungey ballads with a bit of pop. Let them tell you a story. Tickets: $8 door
Saturday January 16
Daddy Long Legs at The Blue Lagoon
Good news Santa Cruz! After 4 years of tearing up the decks (and graduating DJ Cum-Laude) at UCSC, Forrest Bashaw AKA DJ Daddy Long Legs has decided to stick around and keep providing us with his signature audible ear butter. He’ll be spinning at The Blue Lagoon alongside GUR, Big Delight, and Tektite this Saturday. Tickets: $5 door
Sunday January 17
Rebirth Brass Band at Moe’s Alley
Unless you frequent their famous Tuesday night show at The Maple Leaf in New Orleans, you probably recognize these Grammy award-winners and jazz legends from their stint on HBO’s “Treme”. Although it may seem like a party on stage, every sound is meticulously planned and professionally played, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. Tickets: $20 adv/$25 door.
Sunday January 17
Rapper Tauheed Epps, AKA 2Chainz (but he’s got a few on him), is fresh off supporting Drake and Nicki Minaj’s giant summer tours and is embarking on a beast of his own. After hitting the scene in 2011, 2Chainz rose to worldwide fame with impressive speed, and has defied critics and Nancy Grace alike by only gaining in popularity since then. Catch him before his star rises too high. Tickets: $43 (150.00 for VIP meet and greet)
