On October 1, the City of Santa Cruz will celebrate its 150th Anniversary with a huge beach party on Main Beach. The Beach Party, which will go from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., offers a great family-friendly opportunity to come out and celebrate the wonderful Santa Cruz community. Down the beach, past the Boardwalk’s stage, a Kids’ Zone sponsored by Parks and Recreation will include bounce houses from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., staff-led games and activities as well as a ‘free play’ area from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Directly next to the Kids’ Zone, the Junior Guards will celebrate its 50th Anniversary by providing one of their classic beach obstacle courses for the public to test their skills. In addition to kids’ entertainment, The Beach Party features many local musical talents performing on stage near the Wharf. The stage line-up includes: Joint Chiefs (12:30 p.m.), Austin Shaw (2 p.m.), Extra Large (3:15p), Coffis Brothers (4:30 p.m.), Tess Dunn (5:45 p.m.), and headliner James Durbin (7:30 p.m.). Additional stage events include Mayoral remarks, a celebration of 50 years of Sister Cities, as well as a brief account of Santa Cruz city history. This all-day event culminates in a firework spectacular that shouldn’t be missed!
