time for three

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music is known for showcasing diverse, sometimes unexpected acts. But I must say, hearing the name Katy Perry mentioned in the same breath as the festival caught me by surprise. No, the pop starlet is not performing this year, but the self-proclaimed “classically trained garage band,” Time for Three will be there with a repertoire that defies expectation and includes interpretations of songs by Perry, Kanye West and the Beatles.

Born of casual jams between students at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Time for Three is made up of three outstandingly tight, virtuoso musicians who bridge bluegrass, jazz, pop and improvisation that has become a no-limits musical sensation, performing at NFL games, Carnegie Hall, jazz clubs and the Indy 500.
