'Music for Marty 2' is a benefit for local surfer and filmmaker Marty Collins.
PECHAKUCHA NIGHT
From the Japanese for “Chit Chat,” PechaKucha is a fast-paced and informal lecture format featuring a number of speakers from the community. Each presenter exhibits 20 photos, each photo displayed for 20 seconds. Tonight’s PechaKucha night at the MAH features dancer Daniel Mollner, Santa Cruz Warriors’ Public Relations Manager Matt De Nesnera, and ethnomusicologist Tanya Merchant, among others.

DEL THE FUNKY HOMOSAPIEN
Oakland native Del the Funky got his start writing lyrics for Ice Cube, who also happens to be his cousin. He released his first solo album over 20 years ago at the age of 18 then founded underground hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics soon after. Del the Funky’s style brought the regional Oakland sound and the freestyle-based “golden era 90’s” hip-hop to a broader audience, and he has since contributed his funk to collaborations with the likes of Gorillaz and Handsome Boy Modeling School.

MUSIC FOR MARTY PART 2
Local surfer, filmmaker, two-time cancer survivor, and patron of the arts Marty Collins checked into the hospital for a routine procedure in September. He ended up spending 49 days in the intensive care unit after suffering a perforated bowel and while he has improved, he’s still recovering. Music For Marty brings some of Collins’ friends and favorite musicians together as a fundraiser to help pay for his ever-increasing medical expenses and nurse him back to health.

Head to Natural Bridges for the 27th annual all-day celebration of the region’s favorite migratory animals, from butterflies to birds to blue whales. There will be plenty of games, crafts, and skits for kids, plus live music and educational displays.
