Jackson Browne plays Saturday at the Santa Cruz Civic.
JACKSON BROWNE
This guy is in two separate halls of fame. A rock and roll and songwriting legend, Browne first rose to fame in the 1970s and has since sold millions of albums. His tour comes to the Civic Auditorium on Saturday, where he will perform acoustic versions of songs from his entire repertoire. And he’s been mixing up the set list every night, so who knows what he might play this weekend.

DIYine
Winner of the cleverest name award for this week’s selections, the MAH presents a celebration of homemade beer, fruit wines, mead and soda. Admission is based on a sliding scale donation of $20 – $50 to benefit the Fruit Tree Project. The unconventional wine tasting will also offer hors d’oeurves, a silent auction, and music to make for a swanky Saturday evening.
HARD FRENCH WINTER BALL
Hard French is usually a bumping party in San Francisco, but for one weekend every year, the Winter Ball is a seaside escape in Santa Cruz. It’s the perfect place to dance to Motown and 60s soul, all on vinyl. And when they say this event is open to everyone, they mean everyone. If Weekend Update City Correspondent Stephon was recommending parties in Santa Cruz, this is the first place he would plug.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY FUN RUN
Show up at your Super Bowl parties later in the day and make everyone sitting around watching commercials and eating nachos feel bad about themselves by telling them that you already ran a race today. There are options for a 1K kids’ run, a 3K and a 10K, all courses pretty flat and scenic winding down and around West Cliff. T-shirts included with advance registration to enhance the bragging.
