The Boardwalk's annual Clam Chowder Cook-off is this weekend.
CLAM CHOWDER COOK-OFF
Chefs compete to see who can make the tastiest clam chowder, and you get to enjoy the best of the best. There are two divisions, individual and professional, and prizes will be awarded for both the Boston and Manhattan varieties. And it’s more than just chowder—participants have been known to dress up. This might be the only time a mermaid personally serves you a bowl of soup on the Boardwalk. https://www.santacruz.com/32nd-annual-santa-cruz-clam-chowder-cook-off-and-festival-e1827921
BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL
All the outdoor action, adventure and exotic locales you can possibly get from sitting in a dark movie theater in Santa Cruz. This year, the festival expands from two days to three, as the short films take you around the world, from weird sports in New Zealand to five minute poems from Japan, from the tops of mountains right back down. https://www.santacruz.com/banff-mountain-film-festival-world-tour-e1844322
RANDOM WITH A PURPOSE
UCSC’s annual winter dance showcase wraps up this weekend, with performances through Sunday. The theme is Synecdoche, which, aside from being really hard to say, is a figure of speech in which a part refers to the whole of something or vice-versa. With everything from contemporary to hip-hop to tango, the diversity of the show demonstrates all the parts that make dance an art.

GO GIRLS!
Remember 1997, when the Spice Girls were wearing platform shoes, throwing peace signs around and preaching about Girl Power? This is kinda like that, but for real. The program allows girls, in kindergarten to fifth grade, to watch and participate in a play, make friends, and exercise their own modern girl power through creativity and self-expression. https://www.santacruz.com/go-girls-happening-e1847941
UCSC ORCHESTRA
The UCSC Music Department presents its newest orchestra concert of the season, featuring works from three of the most influential composers: Mozart, Dvorak and Beethoven.
