Good Earth Tea got its start in Santa Cruz in 1972 as Fmali Herb Company. At the time, it was one of very few companies in the U.S. to manufacture herbal teas, now a beverage staple. It later began developing teas for the Good Earth restaurant chain. Good Earth tea bags reached California grocery stores in 1988. In 2005, the company was purchased by Tetley, a division of Tata, the second largest tea company in the world.
With the move to New Jersey, Good Earth Teas joins Wrigley, Lipton, JohnsonDiversey and Texas Instruments as companies that once did their manufacturing in Santa Cruz. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
